KLIP Lifestyle Exclusive: An Eastern European design icon from 1958, the RM58 Armchair was revolutionary for being one of the earliest examples of polyester-glass laminate furniture. In its original design by Roman Modzelewski, the RM58 is also manufactured exactly as the original—manually at a shipyard using yacht and boat production technologies. It’s sealed with a synthetic colored resin that guarantees extended longevity.
Never serially produced until now, the RM58 is handmade in Poland from the original material. The RM58 Matt Armchair is a comfortable lounge chair for your living space or office which doubles as a show-stopping sculpture.

Description of Model
The RM58 Classic and Matte are both the modern versions of the historic Roman Modzelewski chair. Thanks to the rotational moulding technology the historical model of the armchair was reproduced, this time as a piece of furniture prepared for serial production using new technologies and materials. The precisely developed form constitutes a 100% replica of the original.
Why We Chose This
In 1957, Roman Modzelewski received an award for his first furniture designs' innovative form and application of modern materials at the Second All-Poland Exhibition of Interior Design in Warsaw. A year later he designed the RM58 Classic Chair, considered revolutionary for its pioneering application of fiberglass. This material plus the industrial technologies used to produce the RM58 made it possible to move beyond that era's constraints of craft manufacturing—and to offer a chair of consistently high quality.
The fully-closed organic form of the seat is enthralling, and had no counterpart from that time, either in Poland or in the world.
One of the earliest preserved RM58 (white) has been purchased for the permanent collection by Victoria and Albert Museum, London and displayed at the “Cold War Modern: Design 1945-1970” exhibition which was the first one to explore the works in modern design, architecture, film and pop culture developed in the context of the Cold War, on both sides of the Iron Curtain.
